Pan Pacific Swimming Championships

The 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships will be held in Irvine and Long Beach, California between August 18 - 22. All the pool swimming events will take place in Irvine and the 10K marathon swim will take place in Marine Stadium in Long Beach.

The 10K marathon swim will be five 2K loops in the flat-water course with the finish next to the shore for convenient spectator viewing.

 
 
 
The Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, commonly referred to as the Pan Pacs, were started in 1985 as a biennial swimming competition to provide a first-class international competition between the two major international swimming competitions - the Olympic Games and the FINA World Swimming Championships. 
 
 
At the 2006 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, the first 10K marathon swim was held.  Chip Peterson (USA) won the men's event in 1:54:26 followed by Fran Crippen (USA) in 1:54:50 and Travis Nederpelt (AUS) in 1:55:16.  On the women's side, Chloe Sutton (USA) won in 2:04:25 followed by Kalyn Keller (USA) in 2:04:29 and Tanya Hunks (CAN) in 2:05:01. 
 
 

The 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships 10K race in Marine Stadium on August 22nd will start at 9:00 am for the elite athletes and will be followed by the 2K and 4K Open Water Pursuit races for swimmers of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.  Michael Phelps and the rest of the USA Swimming national swim team will be onshore, cheering on their open water teammates. The Pan Pacific Swimming Championships 10K race will prove even more exciting than the 2010 USA Swimming National Open Water Swimming Championships that were also held in this same venue in early June.
